Wedding Celebration!

This past Saturday, my Godfather and his fiance' finally tied the knot! The wedding was outdoors and thank God the day weather was great! It Felt really tropical like I was on an Island. I was honored to be one of the bridesmaids! The wedding was beautiful, they looked beautiful and we overall had a wonderful time! Lots of family and friends attended and lots of music, dancing and fun, fun, fun! Just wanted to congratulate them on a wonderful time of their life. I love seeing beautiful people commit themselves to one another!

Slim Girl

All of my life I have been on the slim "skinny" side. I never been passed 110 pounds. I have been teased, called anorexic (one girl even asked me was I bulimic! she did it to embarrass me)  and also get complicated on my size. Although compliments are suppose to be a good thing, I never looked at it in that way because I always wanted to be "thick". All throughout my life I have been self conscience about my size, so much until the point I decided to get on Birth Control, because I heard it makes you gain weight! Well, in my case, I didn't gain weight. Then one day, I talked to my grandmother about my insecurity. She told me, she has always been slim, no matter how much she ate, she never passed 110 pounds, until she had her first baby and even with that she stayed under 120! My mom, who is also a slim woman, told me the exact same thing. I also talked my Aunt (my mom's sister) she said she didn't gain a pound from BC. So here I am trying to force my body to add on weight, and I come to the realization that I'm just a "Naturally Slim" woman. My family are naturally slim people and there is nothing I can do about it. There's nothing I can eat, nor pill, nor shot I can take to make my body gain much weight. Throughout high school I stayed between a 0-3 (even a size 3 was bit loose) and 101-106 pounds. College came around, and (I'm a firm believer in, college is a good way to accept yourself 100%) I began to accept myself and love my body just the way it is. I stopped eating heavily, and just ate enough to fulfill my hunger. I am 5'4 108 pounds currently. When I look at myself in the mirror, I love what I see, I don't have the intention on gaining weight anymore, if it happens then GREAT, but if not GREAT! I know there are plenty of girls and guys who go through what I went through and I wanted to share my story to someone who can read this and learn from it. It's okay to petite! It's not unnatural, otherwise we wouldn't have clothes out there specifically for US! So love and embrace who you are and don't let anyone make you feel bad for the way God created you to be. God created you beautifully and doesn't make any mistakes!

Peace & Love,
Phylia

HAIR UPDATE!

So far, I have been 2.3 years relaxer free and I can say that my hair has never been this healthy! I'm pretty low maintenance with my hair, I usually do twist outs, wash once a month and co-wash 3 times a month! I don't have to wash my hair that often because I don't use many products on my hair. The only products I use are coconut oil and olive oil. Recently, I flat ironed my hair and trimmed it.  I don't flat iron my hair that often, this year I flat ironed it twice and kept it straight for about 3-4 days. I thought I experienced heat damaged, but I realized I have to use shampoo to strip my hair completely. Here is a few photos of my hair journey thus far!

This was my hair at 16 years old (with relaxers). Looking at this photo made me realize, I was not seeing any major growth in my hair. My hair today is much longer and healthier after only 2 years with out relaxers. The reason I say relaxers slows MY hair growth is because, I went to a hair stylist every 2 weeks (during the time I had relaxers) and she did a pretty good job at maintaing my hair. But for some reason, I didn't see any progress, my hair remained this length almost through out my high school years. Until my freshman year of college I stopped relaxing and I actually saw how fast my hair grew.

My first attempt at flat ironing my natural hair at 5 months                                     What a progress!
